About

In March of 1963, local letter carrier Joseph V. McFadden, Sr. took a large but calculated risk; he purchased the bankrupt Audubon Taxi Co for $1800.00. Joe was very familiar with the company--working for Audubon Taxi was one of the many part time jobs he held in order to support a large and growing family.

While maintaining his full-time job at the Post Office, Joe ran the company with his father, Joseph F. McFadden, sons Joe Jr. and Jerry. Joe's father ran the cab office while Joe Jr. and Jerry worked as dispatchers and gas jockeys when not in school. Joe's wife, Jessie, became the accounting department, handling all payroll and billing. This was truly a family enterprise. In 1964 Joe Sr. negotiated an SBA loan through Audubon National Bank. He used this capital to purchase Sterling Cab of Magnolia and Frank's Cab of Mt. Ephraim. This expansion gave birth to a new company: Metro Cab Co. In 1968 Metro acquired the lease of the Flying A service station in Audubon. During this period, Metro began contracting with local school boards to transport Special Education students. It was these contracts that prompted the purchase of several 10 passenger vans.

In early 1972 the company incorporated and became Metro Cab, Inc. Later that year the company began a new service which would become the very heart of the operation: Rapid Rover Airport Shuttle. The Rapid Rover service was a huge success, gaining market share every year. In 1977 Rapid Rover acquired ICC Authority. This extended our service area to virtually all of South Jersey.

In 1981, after having long outgrown the old cab stand in Audubon, Rapid Rover found a new home for operations in the Airport Industrial Park in Pennsauken, NJ. One year later, the company acquired the first property of its own, the Sunoco Service Station in Audubon. This property was transformed into the Metro Servicenter and serves the general public as well as the Rapid Rover fleet. With 4 full-time mechanics and our own source of fuel, service, and repairs, we are able to control costs and availability of this vital support system. More importantly, we are secure in the knowledge that our fleet is the safest and best maintained in the business.
